Dill Pickle Flavored Chips
I know, I was a little harsh on the British when I noted earlier that the potato chips there come in all sorts of flavors you wouldn't expect. (Chicken, beef, shrimp and pork to be specific) I admit, I was just being a touch silly, since heaven knows here we have sour cream, barbeque, cheddar cheese and now this. This gift from heaven. This which is the culmination of all of my life's dreams, a the perfect combination of my favorite things. Salt, Pickles and Fried. This which is possibly the oddest, tackiest, and most delicious thing to ever come out of a laboratory. All hail Dill Pickle Flavored Potato Chips. My new most favorite junk food ever. Too bad they don't sell it in Los Angeles. (Or perhaps, that is a good thing.)

OK Rachael, you didn't get out enough in England. Let's list some of the other flavors shall we?
ReplyDeletepickled onion
chicken tikka masala
spring onion and ginger
smokey bacon
taramasalata
curry
marmite
and of course, hedgehog.
And these (and others) were all available over fifteen years ago when I left - who knows what they have now!
I totally forgot about HEDGEHOG! LOL. Did you ever try that? I cant even imagine...
ReplyDeleteI actually did see all of those except taramasalata (which, in fairness, they should call sour cream and fish egg, but whatever) and even tried a few...now they have a few more like Oregano and parmesan, thai chili, sun-dried tomato. Its a brave new world.
Excuse me? Hedgehog? Ew.
ReplyDeleteI lived in England twice, and I was always a little mortified by the prawn crisps. Or the steak and kidney ones. I suppose they're an acquired taste.
Have you ever tried Tim's cascade chips? They are the BEST. And they make an excellent dill pickle chips. (Apparently, according to someone on eGullet, they make a cheesburger chip, but they only sell it to prisons!)
Hey, I made your melon soup last night, as part of my Tribute to My Favorite Food Bloggers. As you can see on the post, I used galia melons, but it was still spectacular.
Thanks again!
That they have hedgehog chips makes me wonder if it is a cute term for something else, or if its really supposed to mimic meat. Which of course leads me to wonder if they sell hedgehog meat. I certainly never saw it, but I spent most of my shopping dollars in Sainsbury's and Waitroses.
ReplyDeletePrawn actually seems ok to me. I mean, its like chinese shrimp crisps I suppose. Not my taste, but understandable. LOL
Dill Pickle chips... yum, two cravings in one.
ReplyDeleteDil pickle chips are a Canadian standby, been around for ages along with:
ReplyDeleteKetchup
Salt n' Vinegar
Smoky Bacon (and Bacon and Sour Cream)
Roast Chicken
Poutine (potato, gravy and cheese)/ Fries and gravy
Sour Cream and Cheddar
All Dressed
Buffalo Wing
BBQ Cheddar
Grilled Cheese and Cheddar
Ball Park Hot Dog
Lay's did a special series of "Tastes of Canada" including a four-cheese blend for Quebec, Toronto College Street Pizza and Cape Breton Sea Salt and Pepper.
Those are all I can think of right now ... Canadians like variety in their chips! I'm always interested in the variety of flavours around the world. Do you guys have these from Doritos?
Doritos Nacho Italiano
Doritos Extreme Kickin' Chili
Doritos Jalepeno and Cheddar
Note; I have not eaten all of these chips - taquitos.net was a treasure trove of information.
I have said it before and Ill say it again "Dont yuck someones yum"
ReplyDeleteThat being clear, I think you would have to tie me down and forcefeed me hot dog flavored potato chips.
As for the Dorito choices, I dont know that I have seen any of those...then again, I rarely look. I will have to keep an eye out though. Who knew this was such a popular topic! LOL
